Dan Covin is a South Carolina Licensed Residential Homebuilder who has been building and renovating homes in the South Carolina Lowcountry for over 37 years. His passion for design, high quality construction, and hands-on craftsmanship is evident throughout each of his projects. See www.covinconstruction.com.
A large Southern Hickory tree in Dan's backyard was compromised during a Tropical Storm, and the remainder of the tree had to be cut down. This beautiful tree and wood were the inspiration for Dan to "embark" on a new hobby. He salvaged this tree and captured the beauty of the wood creating live-edge tables and benches with an epoxy river table design. This was a new form of designing and creating for Dan - such a fun and rewarding hobby! Next, came the inspiration of designing specialty pieces of wood that are hand-carved/routered in the forms of turtles, crabs, sharks, mermaids, and much more, all colored with epoxy or sands that can be used for various table designs, stand-alone art pieces, and wall art. Each is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art on a special and distinctive piece of wood.
As friends started inquiring if they could purchase and/or commission tables and artwork, the hobby was re-imagined into an exciting artisan venture.
Dan has worked with various wood species including Southern hickory, cherry, red oak, black oak, guanaste, caphor burl from Asia, rosewood from Brazil, pecan, and magnolia. An extremely rare "hundreds of years old" Southern magnolia tree was damaged and had to be cut down which was purchased by Dan and transformed into extraordinary one-of-a kind dining tables. Each type of wood is defined by specific characteristics, various finishes, and artistic interpretations.
Crafted in Hickory, Cherry, Camphor Burl, Rosewood, Red Oak, Black Oak, Pecan, Magnolia
